Creating interactive PDFs in InDesign is a wonderful way to elevate your brand. What is an interactive PDF?

But what exactly is an interactive PDF? This PDF enables you and your audience to click links and buttons, fill out text boxes, sign documents, select bookmarks, and check off or select lists of items, all online. These PDFs are helpful for your audience and not very difficult to create.

How to create an interactive PDF

● Design your page in InDesign. If you are creating an interactive PDF in InDesign, your document needs to be mostly created before you actually begin adding any interactive elements to it. Design your document as you normally would, and once you have completed the overall layout and design of the document, you are ready to turn it into an interactive PDF.

● Turn on the interactive PDF workspace. In the menu bar in InDesign, there is a drop-down menu that says Essentials between a Publish Online button and a search bar. Click on the drop-down menu and select Interactive PDF.

● Add hyperlinks to your interactive PDF. Adding hyperlinks to your PDF enables you to add clickable text, graphics and frames that typically link to outside URLs. Simply open the Hyperlinks panel, click on the New button and add the URL to the window that pops up.

● Add buttons and forms to your interactive PDF. Simply select the panel that says Buttons and Forms. To add a button, select the graphic that you want to convert into a button, click the drop-down menu, and select Button.
